With the rising costs of food, housing, fuel and everything else, we’re all desperately looking for a great entertainment deal.  We need look no further than the upcoming Maricopa County Fair running April 15-19 at the state fairgrounds.  Compared to other entertainment options, including going to the movies or NASCAR, the Fair provides a plethora of all-day attractions and activities for the price of admission.  Fair admission for a family of 4 is $18-$24 (depending on the children’s ages,) compared to $32-$38 for a night at the movies or $100-$440 for a trip to the races.

Be sure to check back for the complete lineup of entertainment included with your fair admission.

Discounts are available if fairgoers want to save even more money.  On
Wednesday, April 15 and Thursday, April 16, each visitor who brings 3 canned food items to the Fair receives half-off an adult admission or a free child’s admission ticket.  Girl Scouts will be on hand to coordinate the collections destined for donation to St. Mary’s Food Bank.  In addition, Wednesday is Seniors Day when everyone 55 and over receives free admission and entertainment, plus free carousel rides until 3:00 p.m.  Thursday is Student Appreciation Day for kids in grades K-6 where they can earn a free student admission and 4 free carnival rides for reading four books and submitting a completed report on that day.

This year’s Fair focus on agriculture reminds us of the impact and importance of agriculture in our county. By celebrating and showcasing the accomplishments and talents of our youth at this annual event, the not-for-profit Fair pursues its mission of educating children and improving the community. Through the Fair and its various programs, including school tours, scholarships, the Read to Ride Program and the Special Program for At-Risk Kids (S.P.A.R.K.), children can learn about farming, livestock, showmanship and responsibility.
